[Praying God’s will is a sure way to see your prayers answered. However, you need to be careful about it. The Bible is not a book of magical incantations that you use to get what you want. Tip 52) How to Renew Your Mind with the Word – contains some important pointers about taking God’s Word in context, so be thoughtful and careful with God’s Word. I believe God’s Word is God’s will, and the following passage has a simple 2 step process for “proving” God’s will for your life.]
[Rom 12:1-2 NKJV] 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you [Step 1)] present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, [which is] your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but [Step 2)] be transformed by the renewing of your mind, [Result] that you may prove what [is] that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
[God has a good, acceptable and perfect will for our lives, and He wants us to not just find it, but PROVE it, by doing and praying for two things: 1) offer our bodies as a living sacrifices to God, and 2) renew our minds with all of God’s Scriptures.]
[2Ti 3:16-17 NIV] 16 All Scriptures is God-breathed and is useful for teaching [to renew our minds], rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
[Eph 2:10 NKJV] 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
[His good, pleasing will for us is to walk in good works… find them, pray about them, and do them… It’s God’s will].
[1Th 5:16-22 NKJV] 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of Godin Christ Jesus for you [God’s will is that we pray and give thanks continually, the majority of our prayer time should be rejoicing, and giving thanks]. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.
[Jer 29:11-13 CSB] 11 "For I know the plans I have for you" -- this is the LORD's declaration -- "plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. 12 "You will call to me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 "You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.
[Not only can you know and pray for God’s will, it is good, full of hope, a promising future according to the Scriptures! Note that the context of this passage is a prophecy being spoken to the tribe of Judah, who are children of Abraham, after being taken captive. For more on this see tip 36) How to Pray for Peace.]
[Mat 7:11 NKJV] 11 "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
[God’s Word says His will for us is good, it is Satan who comes to kill, steal and destroy. Resist Satan and he must flee Jas 4:7-8]]
[Jhn 10:10 NKJV] 10 "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have [it] more abundantly.
[God’s will for us is good, It is ok to pray for the good, abundant, overflowing life promised in God’s Word. A good method to discern God’s will is to let peace, umpire in your heart.]
[Col 3:15 NKJV] 15 And let the peace of God rule[from Greek Gr. for umpire] in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
[If you are not sure what God’s will is, and you are truly seeking Him with all your heart, start moving in a direction and as you move in that direction, if you have more peace about it, you are moving in the right direction. If you have less peace in your heart it is probably the wrong direction. This is letting the peace of God rule or umpire in your heart. A rudder on a ship only works when it starts moving.]
[Jas 3:4 NKJV] 4 Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires.
[As you grow in your friendship with Jesus, and renew your mind with His Word, you will find that your desires will begin to change to become more in line with what God’s will is… His Word. The following passage can also help you discover God’s will for your life.]
[Psa 37:4 NKJV] 4 Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
[If you are delighting yourself in the Lord and His Word, you will have a growing desire to do and pray for what God’s will is. When you reach this point in your spiritual growth, God will begin to put His desires/will for your life, in your heart and you will be able to pilot “where ever the pilot desires” (Jas. 3:4). However, if you have an un-renewed, worldly mind, this verse won’t work for you because you are still too focused on the world rather than the Word. As you renew your mind you will even have peace and a desire to gladly sacrifice your comfort and safety for doing God’s will. Note that as you begin to grow, you will likely be hesitant to obey the still, small voice when it asks you to sacrifice your comfort and safety to do what God’s Word is telling you to do. But as you get better at obeying, the hesitation should turn to anticipation because God is asking you to do something that will help you grow closer to Him.]
