Tip 29) Pray Using Jesus’ Authority - Jesus Commands us to Speak Directly to the Problem

No matter how big or dangerous the mountain in your life, Jesus says we are to speak to it.

[Speaking in the authority and name of Jesus can be considered a form of prayer, but it is not often taught or lived out by believers.]

[Mar 11:22-26 NKJV] 22 So Jesus answered and said to them, "Have faith in God. 23 "For assuredly, I say to you, whoever [including you] says to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' [don’t ask God to move it, YOU speak to the mountain or problem with the power of the Holy Spirit inside you] and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says [NOT whatever we ask God to do, but what we say—speaking directly to the problem, including problems like disease, road blocks to God’s plan, someone’s salvation, etc.]. 24 "Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive [them][NOW present tense, NOT future tense, like healing later when we get to Heaven], and you will have [them]. 25 "And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 "But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses."

[Mar 4:39 NKJV] 39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm

[Jesus didn’t pray to God to calm the storm, He rebuked it directly].

[Jhn 11:43 NKJV] 43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth!"

[Again, Jesus didn’t pray to God to raise Lazarus, He yelled at him directly. Of-course He is God, but we, as born again Christians, have God/Jesus in us in the form of the Holy Spirit, so when we speak His Word with the spiritual gift of faith from the Holy Spirit, it is not us speaking but the Holy Spirit in us! That’s how Jesus commanded us to pray in Mark 11:23 and how His disciples did it in Acts.]

[Act 3:6-8 NKJV] 6 Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk." 7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted [him] up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them--walking, leaping, and praising God.

[Peter didn’t ask God in prayer to heal the lame man… he says “what I do have” (he has the Holy Spirit and the Authority of Jesus’ name) and directly commands him to walk the same way Jesus spoke to and calmed the storm].

[Act 16:18 NKJV] 18 And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And he came out that very hour.

[Paul didn’t pray to God to cast out the demon, he spoke to it directly in the name of Jesus.]

[Pro 18:21 NKJV] 21 Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

[Be careful to always speak life and truth. What we say are seeds that affect the future. Some seeds still kill and destroy, and other bring abundant life.]

[Col 1:27 NKJV] 27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

[Speaking in the name of Jesus taps into the authority and power of the Holy Spirit in us. It’s not you speaking when you speak God’s Word/promises to your mountain of a problem, but the Holy Spirit in you speaking through the spiritual gift of faith—the hope of the riches of His glory He willed to make known to us! The power of life and death—so speak life!]

[Isa 45:11 NKJV] 11 Thus says the LORD, The Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: "Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons; And concerning the work of My hands, you command Me.

[Some believe it is presumptuous and arrogant to assume we can command God with our spoken words. It would be, if He hadn’t commanded us to do so. But we aren’t really commanding God, we are simply enforcing what He has already promised in His Word, the way He instructed us to do so. He is not our genie to command, we are His body, His hands and feet, instruments for Him to work His Word and will through us.

One needs to be careful with this form of prayer. For it to work you have to understand God’s laws set out in His Word surrounding prayer and speaking in the authority of the name of Jesus. The prayer tips in this guide are not comprehensive, but they are a start to get you going on your own prayer journey with God.Please read them all!]
