[Jas 1:26 NKJV] 26 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion [is] useless.
[Be careful with your Words. Never lie, jest, or talk foolishly. Lying hardens your heart and deceives you when later you try to speak and believe the truth of God’s Word and promises. Lying undercuts your faith in that Word because your mind is use to not believing what you say.]
[Eph 5:1-2, 4, 6 NKJV] 1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. [here Paul is talking about our actions but remember, the burning of incense in the temple worship represented the prayer of the saints, our works of love can also be a form of prayer] ... 4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. [prayer]... 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words [lies], for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
[Jas 3:2-10 NKJV] 2 For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he [is] a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. 3 Indeed, we put bits in horses' mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. 4 Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6 And the tongue [is] a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8 But no man can tame the tongue. [It is] an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
[It is this power of our tongue that Satan sought in the Garden to wield by deceiving us. As the Sunday school song says “be careful little mouth what you say.”]
[Pro 18:21 NKJV] 21 Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
[Deu 30:19 NKJV] 19 "I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, [that] I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
