Tip 35) Promise: 2. How to Pray for Healing & Salvation

[As I began to focus on what the Scripture says about healing, I was amazed at the number of passages there were on the subject of healing, and how little my church upbringing ever taught on these passages. Many of them I had read multiple times and somehow just overlooked them. Especially when compared to those few passages, like Paul’s thorn in the flesh, that people use to explain why God doesn’t always heal or answer pray—see tip 19) Paul’s Thorn in the Flesh. The preponderance of the Word is clearly more focused on healing than not. Jesus, focused on healing more than anyone in Scriptures, and NEVER once said it was NOT God’s will to heal someone. In addition, I was taught that the O.T. promises were not for today, contrary to what Paul wrote in Gal. 3:13&14—see tip 23) Old Testament Promises. Here are 13 passages promising on healing and health you can pray and stand on.]

[Exo 15:26 NKJV] 26 and said, "If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I [am] the LORD who heals you."

[Psa 91:3 NLT] 3 For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.

[Psa 103:2-5 NKJV] 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5 Who satisfies your mouth with good [things], [So that] your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

[Psa 107:19-21 NKJV] 19 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, [And] He saved them out of their distresses. 20 He sent His word [Jesus] and healed them, And delivered [them] from their destructions. 21 Oh, that [men] would give thanks to the LORD [for] His goodness, And [for] His wonderful works to the children of men!

[Isa 53:4-5 NKJV] 4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He [was] wounded for our transgressions, [He was] bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace [was] upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

[Every truth shall be established by 2 or 3 witnesses. God’s Word references this passage again in Mathew 8:17 and 1 Peter 2:24, and both clearly refer to physical healing, and the Matthew passage is backed up by Mark 1:32 and Luke 4:40 confirming that Mathew’s use is in the context of healing in the here and now, not just after we get to Heaven.]

[Mat 8:16-17 NKJV] 16 When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: "He Himself took our infirmities And bore [our] sicknesses."

[1Pe 2:24 NKJV] 24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness--by whose stripes you were healed.

[Jas 5:13-15 NKJV] 13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

[Mat 9:35 NKJV] 35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

[3Jo 1:2 NKJV] 2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

[You can also pray for protection from disease and promised health.]

[Neh 9:21 NKJV] 21 Forty years You sustained them in the wilderness; They lacked nothing; Their clothes did not wear out And their feet did not swell.

[Deu 7:13-15 NKJV] 13 "And He will love you and bless you and multiply you; He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flock, in the land of which He swore to your fathers to give you. 14 "You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be a male or female barren among you or among your livestock. 15 "And the LORD will take away from you all sickness, and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known, but will lay [them] on all those who hate you. [Exo 23:25-26, 30 NKJV] 25 "So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you. 26 "No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days. ... 30 "Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land.

[Since I began praying for healing based on these promises from His Word, personally I have seen many miraculous healings, as well as some doctor assisted healings. Here are some healing testimonies I have seen:

Miracle Baby - One amazing healing was about my daughter’s pregnancy. My daughter had been married for a couple of years and they were having difficulty having children. When she finally did get pregnant, after her first sonogram the Dr. told her she had a high-risk pregnancy. I remember praying with my wife about the pregnancy and that the baby was healthy and whole. My wife a few days later had a dream of a curly haired little girl running around our house. We took that as a promise from God that the baby would be born healthy. A few months later at her next sonogram everything looked fine and she was taken off high-risk status. After our granddaughter started walking, sure enough the dream promise came true. And what is amazing is that she has very curly hair and lots of it. None of our kids had hair this curly! What a blessing!

Long-time Ailment Healed - Another personal healing was from an ailment I had seen intermittently for 25 years that the Dr. had diagnosed as rectal fissures. I began to see the bleeding gradually more frequently and having been exposed recently to Biblical teaching on healing I began to speak to the problem, while praying and standing on these promises. It would stop, then come back. I would speak to it again because I believe Satan likes to try to steal our healing through his lies by getting us to doubt that the healing we experienced was God’s will, getting us into double-mindedness and unbelief. The frequency got less and less to the point that it has been years since I have seen this problem like it once was. Praise God I am healed! I believe that if I gave into the thoughts and fear, that I wasn’t actually healed the first time, Satan would have stolen my healing by getting me into unbelief and double-mindedness. I have seen several healings in my body since then, and I am still standing on the promises in God’s Word for healing that I have yet to see manifest. I will continue to stand on God’s Word, believing that His Word is the perfect reflection of the way things are in the spiritual realm where there is no sickness or disease and where His will—as reflected in His word—reigns.

A Trip to the Emergency Room - My father-in-law and I had been on the similar prayer journeys for more than a decade. However, he had a head start on me by several years. Much of what he had learned was from the teachings of people like Andrew Wommack, John G. Lake, and Smith Wigglesworth. After practicing and standing on the Word for around 15 years, my father-in-law had a serious stroke and headed for the hospital. My wife called and I beat them to the emergency room. While waiting I called the Wommack Ministries Helpline (719-635-1111) and prayed in agreement with one of their prayer ministers for my father-in-law. I accompanied him along with our wives to his ER station. As we were waiting for the doctor to arrive, I watched the left side of his face drooping significantly, like it was melting. He was complaining about his left side being numb and his speech was slurring. Trying to live out what I had learned, I spoke to the blood clots in his brain and said, “dissolve completely in the name of Jesus!” Within a minute his face return to normal. I then prayed out loud that the doctor would be able to see his ailment. When the doctor arrived, he was acting fairly normal and even joking, but within a few minutes his face began to droop again and the Dr. and nurses witnessed it this time. I prayed once again and spoke to the clots and he got better immediately. They sent him for an MRI and never found anything and he has not had a single problem since, and that was more than 3 years ago, praise God!

Urgent Care Detour - Here is another testimony. Recently I was lifting heavy boxes over my head and injured my shoulder. I believe I had injured a tendon, because the pain got so bad, I had gradually lost more than 90% of shoulder movement within a week. I had made an appointment with the Dr. but there was a date mix-up and they recommended I go to the emergency room. As I was driving, I remembered what God had done for my father-in-law and pulled over and called the AWMI Helpline again. I had just 2% battery life left on my cellphone so I quickly explained the situation to the prayer minister and asked if she would pray a simple prayer of agreement with me. We were able to pray together before my cell died and after hanging up immediately my shoulder was doing better. It didn’t last long however. Rather than go to the ER, I decided to drive over to my father-in-law for advice and more prayer. It took less than 10 minutes to drive there and my shoulder continued to get worse. I began thinking of others who had long recoveries from shoulder surgery including my wife several years before. After praying and trying to move my arm, it seemed to not be getting any better. My father-in-law shared about a testimony where someone received gradual healing. I had a decision to make. Drive to the ER or continue to pray. We shared Scriptures with one another and he didn’t offer any advice and let me make the decision on whether to go to the ER. After about 45 minutes of sharing I tried using my hand to crawl my arm up the wall. It was painful but I did it several times and before I left, I had about 40% of my shoulder movement back. I decided to drive around the neighborhood and get angry and yell at my shoulder and tendons to be healed in the name of Jesus. I stopped and walked around a park and continued to move my arm and it showed gradual improvement. Over the next 2 weeks my arm was completely healed. Each day I would take a hot shower and move my arm while using the hand crawl method on the side of the shower. About 3 months later I noticed a familiar twinge and immediately spoke to the shoulder and haven’t had an issue since. Praise God, His Word works!

Cancer Healed - Here is another miraculous healing testimony.Our Tuesday night prayer group at Resurrection Church tries to keep a log of answered prayers.In 10 years we have logged 425 answered prayers and praises.Probably less than half what we had actually seen.The most recent one was of our longest standing member, Ethel Johnson.In her 80s, Ethel had been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer.She said that her long-time Dr. came in to give her the results of her test, and had to leave the room to regain his composure before talking to her.She said to the Dr. that she was a big girl and could handle what he had to say.He gave her the diagnosis and referred her to an oncologist. The next evening at pray group we prayed for here and anointed her with oil.Just two fingers on here neck near her lymph nodes.As I lightly applied the oil while praying, I sensed a spikey object under here skin.I asked here about it later, and she said she never could feel here lymph nodes.The next week before prayer group, she went to her oncologist who told her she did not have cancer.That her lymph nodes were shrinking, which was a clear sign that she did not have cancer!She said the best part of her healing was the rejoicing she received from her son when he learned about it.Although not always a follower of Jesus, He had been praying for his mother’s healing and his faith and that of his siblings has been strengthened.]
